Goals of our School

Bais Abraham Congregation is happy to announce the opening of its "Ivrit B'ivrit" Sunday morning Hebrew school, for children entering grades K-5, who speak Hebrew with their families at home. (This is not a program for beginners in Hebrew.) The goal of the program is to teach Hebrew reading (with a focus on comprehension) and writing (with improved accuracy and meaning) and to strengthen the children's connection to the land of Israel and Jewish tradition. The classes will be taught in small groups entirely in Hebrew by professionally qualified Israeli teachers, led by Torah Mitzion's Assi and Gilat Gastfraind. We expect parents to reinforce their children's learning by helping them with age-appropriate homework between classes.

Materials Used

Our teachers will be using Israeli material written for Israeli children. Included will be books by Tsippi Meshulam (with whom our lead teachers trained) described here.

Class Calendar 2011-2012

All classes meet on Sunday mornings from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on the days listed below.

Location

Classes meet at Bais Abraham Congregation, 6910 Delmar Blvd., University City.

Costs and Registration

The class costs $260 for the first semester (13 two hour classes) and $240 for the second semester (12 two hour classes), per child, payable in full by the first day of each semester. Classes are free for members of Bais Abraham Congregation (so we encourage you to join!) For those who have donated to at least $150 to the Torah MiTzion program (which brought our lead teachers to St Louis) the cost is $195 per semester per child (which corresponds to a 25% discount.) We may charge parents an additional fee (at our cost price) for textbooks and materials.

The fees (or Bais Abe membership dues) may be paid by check at the Open House, on the first day of the semester or mailed to Shelanu, Bais Abraham Congregation, 6910 Delmar, University City, MO 63130. Alternately you may pay online, choosing "Shelanu" as a "Category" from the "Please select a purpose" menu. Please contact us (in person, at ivrit@baisabe.com or at the office at 314-721-3030) to discuss scholarships if these costs present a financial burden.

We also need a completed registration form including emergency contact information which he may mailed to us by post office or emailed to ivrit@baisabe.com.
