Chumus, Kim's Oatmeal Cookies, and Chana's Broccoli Salad; authentic
ethnic dishes such as Lili's KooKoo-E Sbazi (Persian herb frittata),
Pia's "Gvetch" (Romanian vegetable casserole), and Dorit's Shakshuka.
Kids will love to make Tali's Amazing 5-Minute Microwave Chocolate
Cake-in-a-Mug, while the fearless gourmet chef will want to try
Mindee's Eggplant Rollatini and the other gourmet dishes in each
category. The selection of scrumptious desserts includes Dalia's
Coffee Liqueur Cheesecake Bars (with an insert on how to make your own
coffee liqueur!), and the epicurious.com award-winning recipe for
Sour Cream and Apple Crumble Pie by Judy and Mark Hoffman. Vegetarian
delights (like Andrea's Broccoli and Tofu in Spicy Peanut Sauce) are
sprinkled throughout the cookbook, and of course, we have not forgotten
our traditional Jewish foods that have sustained us for generations -
challah, noodle kugel, roasted chicken, cholent, mandelbrot! (Dal
Cholent is traditional, you ask?) "People of the Cookbook" is $18 per
copy (donations above this amount are welcome to help make this
fund-raiser for our shul a real success!) payable to Bais Abraham and

In The News
Aliyah Schneider, a former St. Louisan and participant in
the 'WUJS: Land, Language, and Society' program in Israel,
was recently interviewed by the St. Louis Jewish Federation.
When asked what she misses about St. Louis, she had this
to say:
"Bais Abe. A shul like Bais Abe doesn't exist in
Jerusalem. It's diverse; it's out-of-the-box. It's me."

"Bais Abe" is a warm, welcoming and diverse Orthodox synagogue led by Rabbi Hyim Shafner located in the University
City Loop area of St. Louis, close to Washington University. The community combines observance, passionate prayer and deep
Torah study with creativity, openness and activism. We offer many opportunities for exploration and enrichment, including
Shabbat services, weekday morning minyan, family shabbatons, weekly study sessions, a lively Lunch and Learn series,
student hospitality programs and a junior congregation, and we are home to the St. Louis Women's Tefillah Group. Individuals
and families of all backgrounds and levels of observance are welcome.
